The Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) continues to face various challenges in advocating for migrant worker cases throughout 2010-2024. The main challenges include protracted public service bureaucracy, not yet optimal implementation of Law 18/2017, weak regulation of legal norms, and ineffective implementation of Law 21/2007. Apart from that, SBMI is also pushing for the ratification of ILO Convention 188 concerning Work in the Fisheries Sector and ILO Convention 189 concerning Decent Work for Domestic Workers. This effort aims to increase legal protection and justice for Indonesian migrant workers.
